Babas Beat North Bay - Away
Saturday October 31 at North Bay
The Baba's traveled down to Aberdeen , Maryland this past Saturday to play North Bay. The day was warm, but very wet, and the conditions of the pitch were horrible. Standing water, deep pockets of mud would prove to be a challenging landscape for both teams.
North Bay kicked off and the Baba's mishandled the opening kickoff, which gave ball to North Bay who stayed in our 22 m for the first five minutes. Defense was good, but finally the referee awarded a penalty to North Bay for a Baba lying in the ruck. Their fly half converted, North Bay up 3-0. The Barbarians fought back with some good possession and worked the ball into the North Bay half. The conditions prohibited quick ball, but finally Tulip snookered through a gap and put the ball down for the first try of the day. Patrick was unable to convert; we are now up 5-0.
The Barbarians continued the pressure, with Jack Amber winning tons of lineout's, with good support from George and Jud. On a penalty play, we ran the ball into their 5 m zone, tried to push over, but the ball worked out to Tulip who passed onto Schweppe, who set the ball down for the 2nd try of the day. Pat converted; we are now up 12-3.
At the half, Schweppe came off for Wes. A few minutes in, Tulip again broke through the backline of North Bay and set the ball down for his 2nd try of the day, which Patrick converted, we are now up 19-3. Twenty minutes in, pat and Andy came off for Shaffer and Joey, and North Bay woke up. They stayed in our 22 m zone for several minutes, getting several penalties and trying to punch in for a try. The Baba defense was spectacular, with big hits by Hank, George and Steve T. Finally Deerhunter cleared the ball and went on a long run but was tackled a few meters short of the try zone, and the whistle blew. Baba's win 19-3.
The B side featured a full side of the killer B's, and we took it to them. Mike Green took in the first try, off a pass from Deerhunter. Wes, Half Speed and Crapplegate scored and we won 20-5. Keith played well, as did Jeff Brytczuk, Steve Schmidt and Joey.
A side was Flude, Henry, Andy (Joey), Jack, George, Steve T, Patrick (Shaffer), Jud, Ethan, Tulip, Jeremy, Schweppe (Wes), Mike Green, Matt Langston, Deerhunter
B side was, Joey, Keith, Half Speed, Jeff B, Red Jeff, Austin Monroe, Steve Schmidt, Freddy, Mike Green, Neil, Wes, Crapplegate, Tulip/DH, Jack's brother, Shaffer and Light Speed.
